Chief Planning Officer

(please note: The person specification for this post has been updated to include being a member of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors)

Your confident and connected borough

Sefton is a diverse and exciting borough where people can enjoy a great work-life balance. It encompasses world renowned nature reserves, accessible businesses and retail centres, top class leisure facilities and some of the best coastal and countryside environments. It is an ideal location for accessing Liverpool, Manchester, the North West and beyond by road, rail or air.

From vibrant and distinctly different town centres of Bootle and Southport, intimate commuter towns, beautiful villages and stunning coastal and rural locations, everyone can find their perfect home. Sefton is at the heart of the Liverpool City Region, playing an active role in ensuring its success.

Your new place of work

This is a changing and vibrant authority already on a journey working towards an exciting 2030 vision. This is an organisation where excellent links with our partners, businesses and communities are integral to the delivery of our products and services.

Your new opportunities

You will have responsibility and accountability for the leadership of the key Planning and Building Control functions, within the Economic Growth and Housing Service. This is a challenging, exciting and rewarding role, working within an exceptionally diverse Borough. Sefton’s Local Plan was adopted in 2017 and delivery progress is well advanced. Nevertheless, there are many opportunities to make a considerable difference to the quality of life of Sefton residents and to make positive contributions to the local economy as well as stewarding our much-cherished local environment. We have a thriving Building Control Team which has a healthy and growing market share, and a burgeoning Conservation team as a result of a ‘Heritage at Risk’ Programme, Townscape Heritage Project (Stage 2 Bid awaiting outcome), and a Heritage Action Zone bid. This is a demanding role (which has become vacant following the promotion of the previous post holder) and the conditions are in place for the right individual to make their mark.
