About The Role

This role is an integral part of the Land Management Team’s north coastal operations. The north coastal operations teams work is highly seasonal – being beaches and visitor focussed during the summer and habitat management & improvement during the winter.

Based at our Ainsdale depot, the teams support the management of internationally important habitats and species that are present on the Sefton Coast, which is not only a Site of Special Scientific Interest, but also a Ramsar site, a Special Protection Area and Special Area of Conservation. This means that its nature conservation value is extremely high and afforded legal protection from development and disturbance.

The Council as a landowner of protected sites has obligations to conserve and protect the habitats and species present.

The key responsibilities include:

  • Carrying out practical habitat management tasks using powered machinery for which training certification may be needed.
  • The ability to function effectively and efficiently within a team environment
  • Working with and in support of volunteers and community groups
  • Beach car parking duties, handling payments, challenging inappropriate behaviours that may be damaging to the protected site or public safety
  • Keeping accurate and timely records regarding incidents, site, vehicle and equipment maintenance & inspections
  • Carrying out welfare checks on conservation grazing animals and working closely with external partners.

This role suits someone who is passionate about nature conservation management, committed to maintaining high standards, and confident working collaboratively with colleagues and external partners to support a skilled and safe workforce that works in a fast paced environment where priorities can change rapidly.
