Job Requirements

We are looking to recruit a suitably qualified person for the role of Cook in Charge.

Birkdale Primary is a busy cooking kitchen catering for on average between 220 to 250 meals a day. The post presents an exciting opportunity for a suitably qualified person who has at least one year’s experience within a kitchen and a proven record for good food preparation and presentation.

The school works closely with the catering team to create a nurturing and innovative operation and the catering staff continuously encourages children to taste and try new things.

The successful applicant will need to be well organised and have good time management skills to be able to run this busy kitchen. We are looking for someone who will be able to develop and promote the service, maintain an excellent standard of food quality and kitchen hygiene and who will be able to meet the requirements of the children, teachers, and parents. They will also be required to work closely with the school on other activities that will further promote the service as a whole and increase meal numbers.

You will be required to attend a half day course to achieve a level 2 award in food safety every three years.

(This course is being undertaken online at present) (Every 3 years)

This is an exciting opportunity for you to make a real difference to the children who use our service.

Due to the nature of the work, this post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and the successful candidate must be able to obtain a satisfactory Enhanced Disclosure (via the Disclosure & Barring Service DBS) in order to be appointed to the post.

Closing Date:  13.09.24
