Sefton Council’s Green Sefton Service is recruiting for a Tree and Woodland Officer. Our Tree and Woodland Team manages tree stock on both the highways, within parks, cemeteries and crematoria and advises on all other council owned trees including those on the Coast.

Green Sefton is an exciting service which manages our special coast, parks and greenspaces: from our beautiful and internationally recognised coastline which supports some of the rarest flora and fauna in the country, to coastal habitats which are rarer than rainforest, through to our historic parks and gardens, 160 other greenspaces, and our sport and recreation facilities. In total, we manage around 5,500ha of land and this includes managing both inland and coastal flood risk too.  We are a varied service indeed!

As part of a small dedicated team, the successful applicant will play a key role in surveying tree stock, overseeing management works on site, writing insurance claims, dealing wth Elected Member enquiries, local resident enquiries and creating and prioritising work orders.

Successful applicants will be required to undertake visual tree surveys on a variety of terrains using hand held computerised tablets. Applicants should be able to demonstrate knowledge and experience in urban tree management and also show initiative when prioritising risk and creating work orders.

Applicants should ideally be able to demonstrate experience in working for a local authority, understand the level of communication expected with regards to the public, Elected Members and also produce information leaflets and posters for the public.

Sefton Council employs a term contractor to undertake tree works, the applicant should be able to demonstrate experience in working with a contractor, monitoring works, understanding best practice with regards to tree pruning and removals and safe working practices.

The successful candidate will aid the councils’ insurers with tree related insurance claims and ideally have experience in writing reports in relation to these claims.

The successful candidate will be involved in designing and implementing tree planting schemes both standard trees and woodland planting.

The successful candidate will work from home, a variety of bases across the borough and on site. The applicant should have good organisational skills, be able to organise own workload and work on initiative.

A full driving licence is essential.
