ECOLOGIST
Merseyside Environmental Advisory Service, Sefton Council
Permanent appointment – 36 hours per week
Benefits include: Casual Car User, Local Government Pension, flexible working and CIEEM membership fees.
We are going through an exciting period of rapid growth and are seeking a highly motivated Ecologist to join our exceptional Ecology team.
The Liverpool City Region has a wealth of nature sites and internationally important coasts and estuaries including the Dee, Mersey, Ribble and Alt estuaries and Wirral and Sefton coasts. We are striving to ensure that the very special wildlife thrives in a vibrant and progressive City Region economy.
Covering the districts of Halton, Knowsley, Liverpool, St. Helens Sefton, Wirral and West Lancashire, this post is specifically targeted at ambitious individuals who wish to develop their ecology / planning careers and play a leading role in driving nature recovery in our City Region.
The Ecologist will provide specialist technical advice to our local authority customers on ecology, biodiversity, nature conservation, Habitats Regulations Assessments (HRA) and new statutory and regulatory duties including under the Environment Act 2021, including review of planning applications, preparation of policy and project development and implementation.
The role offers important support to Local Site monitoring, and applications from people with experience in protected species are particularly welcome; possession of protected species licences would be advantageous. Experience in working with statutory agencies and developers and a proven ability to identify and facilitate environmental solutions would be welcomed. If you are working towards a professional membership that would also be helpful.
As an employee of Sefton Council, you will enjoy the benefits of local government within an established City Region service. The Council are, where possible, operating a hybrid working model which will involve a combination of working from home and when required from a Council office site. Access to your own transport is required and the ability to work occasional evenings and weekends is desirable.
Closing date for receipt of completed applications: 11.55pm, 22 February 2023. Interviews are anticipated to take place early to mid to late March 2023.
