Sefton Council’s Planning Services sits at the heart of economic recovery within the Borough in terms of facilitating major investment and development with some exciting and ambitious projects on the horizon.  We are already ahead of the game in terms of planned changes to the planning system and by gearing up to be able to make an immediate impact when legislative reform arrives.  We are looking for the right person with the right values and ambition to lead one of our Development Management teams in an area where there will be significant transformation within the Borough.  We have a strong one team ethos that is underpinned by a suite of core values that are of acknowledged importance to our customers, who we place at the heart of service delivery. Job requirements:

We are looking for an experienced Town Planner to lead our busy southern area Development Team and contribute to the continuous improvement of the Planning Service. You will deal with a wide range of contentious and complex proposals and you must possess the requisite level of knowledge, skill and experience to perform this role.   

You will have experience of leading a development management team and a proven track record of offering support and coaching to achieve high performance. You will be sensitive to the political context of this role.

You will have a flexible and positive approach to work. We require a strong commitment to customer care and to developing innovative approaches to provide an excellent planning service. 

You must have:

A Professional qualification in Town Planning or equivalent

Membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute or capable of joining

Significant experience of assessing major, complex planning applications

Experience of leading a development management team on a day-to-day basis

Experience of working closely with elected members including presenting at Planning Committee and various committee briefings

Experience of working on and contributing to corporate projects

Excellent communication skills including verbal briefings and written reports

The ability to prioritise competing work pressures and meet strict deadlines

Excellent IT skills
